Project Overview

The City of Tampa is working hard to build, maintain, and deliver high quality, reliable water service to its customers for drinking, cooking, cleaning, sanitation, irrigation, recreation, business, and fire protection. The City Capital Improvement Program (CIP) identifies and delivers projects throughout Tampa where water infrastructure, treatment, and distribution system improvements are needed. This project is one of many City projects funded by the PIPES initiative.

As part of the City CIP, the Palma Ceia Water Main Improvements Project will improve water service reliability by replacing aging water mains and reducing service interruptions due to breaks and leakage. The new water mains will also add needed capacity for growth and increase water pressure for homes, businesses and fire suppression throughout the Palma Ceia area. The project will replace approximately 31,700 linear feet of existing water main pipes with new and larger diameter pipes ranging from two (2) to twelve (12) inches and includes the transfer of existing services, temporary water service, roadway resurfacing and restoration, sidewalk and driveway restoration, maintenance of traffic, and sodding. The project began in January 2022, and it is expected to be complete in summer 2024, weather permitting.

This project will take place along various streets throughout the Palma Ceia area including:

  • South MacDill Avenue
  • West Granada Street
  • West Barcelona Street

Construction on the various streets is generally planned to occur one at a time but there may be some overlap on streets as construction of the water mains continues while other streets are in process of restoration.

The contractor will remove, catalog, store, and replace the brick pavers on those streets where they currently exist.

Construction will take place Monday through Friday, with occasional night and weekend work to occur on an as-needed basis to minimize traffic disruptions.

Construction will take place between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with occasional nighttime work to occur as needed to minimize traffic disruptions.

Construction activities that require temporary road closures and/or detours will be clearly marked by signage to assist motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists navigating through and around the construction areas. In some cases, flagmen will be present to direct traffic. Temporary road closures and detour information will also be posted on the project website (www.palmaceiawatermainph3.com) and distributed as Alerts to those who register to receive them.

Normal access to properties will be affected as construction progresses along the streets within the project limits. Property owners will be notified prior to activities impacting normal access. Construction crews will work to minimize the duration of disruption and will ensure an alternate access route is maintained.

Interruption of water service may occur but is expected to be minimal and of short duration as services are transferred to the newly installed pipes. Property owners will be notified in advance of all scheduled interruptions of service through door-hanger notifications or other means of communication. Information will also be posted on the project website (www.palmaceiawatermainph3.com).

To avoid/minimize impacts to mail delivery and garbage/recycling pick-up, the contractor will work to coordinate with service providers concerning construction activities. Any service interruptions should be reported by calling the project hotline at 813-557-3979 or emailing [email protected].

Residents, businesses, property owners and tenants located along active project areas will be notified of upcoming construction activities and associated impacts via door-hanger notifications. Updated project information will also be provided on the project website (www.palmaceiawatermainph3.com).
